The Benefits of Massage in Physical Therapy

Massage therapy is just one aspect of the continuum of care offered at Piedmont Orthopaedic’s physical therapy department. Massage Therapist, Stephanie Owen, typically applies the therapeutic and neuromuscular massage techniques to aid patients in their recovery after surgery or suffering an injury. “Massage therapy is important because it relieves muscles and aches, decreases scar tissue and increases circulation which promotes healing,” Owens said. “Therapy reeducates the muscles to help regain strength and elasticity, which also helps improve general range of motion and flexibility.”
